Career Planning
The role of parents is to “train up a child in the way they should go” . This starts right from the very beginning as we raise our children with a sense of purpose and destiny to do God’s will.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”. Ephesians 2:10

The major question facing most young people is, “What should I do when I finish my schooling?”

Careers

For many parents this is a significant concern. After all if your child does not know what they should be doing with their life, what is the point of learning anything?

Some children know from an early age what they would like to do when they “grow up”. Others struggle and they are never really sure just exactly what they should be doing with their life.

For others their career path changes and they end up in a vocation that is quite different to what that may have thought.

It is important as parents to try and establish what is the most likely career and vocation path for your child, and then plan and prepare the most appropriate programmes to help them achieve this.

By finding out what your child’s most likely career path will be you can plan and prepare programmes that are the most effective in equipping your child for the future.

There are a number of excellent vocation and career guidance programmes available which are designed to help identify the most likely career path for your child.

1) Career Discovery
Career Discovery uses two of the most successful, powerful and thoroughly researched “Individual Profile Analysis” programmes currently available.

It involves a personal interview and consultation process that will identify, clarify and assess how: Personality, Abilities, Values, Interest and Aptitude, effect our future career options.

With Career Discovery you will have the resources and tools with which to more accurately and effectively predict, match and plan your: Future Career Options, Future Career Performance, and Future Career Action Plan.

2) Career Discovery Seminars
The Career Discovery Seminar is a one-day seminar that looks at the essential biblical principles for career planning.

Combining Powerpoint presentation, practical activities and student participation, the seminar is followed up by an optional personal consultation and assessments designed to establish an action plan for the future.

The seminar covers: Building a Biblical Work Ethic, Discovering God’s Way of Handling Money and Understanding Your God Given Design.

3) Career Yes
Career Yes is a Christian based programme that takes students through a series of interesting and fun activities designed to help them discover their most likely career path.

It is suited more for early secondary level students (Year 9 to 11), but can also be used with older student.

The programme is self-instructional and can be reused for other family members.

4) Career Direct
Career Direct is a biblically based, computerized assessment that analyses the student’s responses to a series of questions, and prints a comprehensive report providing suggestions and advice on possible career options. It also helps students prepare their own Action Plan for the future.

A series of audio messages takes the student step by step through the programme providing inspirational and educational material that will help the student understand the report and interpret it’s relevance to their life.

You may also requesting a personal consultation with one of the Home Schooling NZ staff, who will help you prepare your Action Plan and discuss the various options available to you.
